— The Practice

Four disciplines.
One orientation:
leave the field richer
than we found it.

We work as advisors, curators, designers, and cultural strategists. Each discipline reinforces the others — and a portion of every engagement funds the workshops and public art we run through The Vine.

i. Advisory

Build a collection
that compounds in meaning.

For private collectors, foundations, and corporate stewards. We help you decide what to buy, when to wait, and how to live with it. Our advisory work is patient — most engagements unfold over 18-36 months — and rooted in a specific argument about Southern art.

Typical engagements include:

  • Acquisition strategy and primary-market negotiation
  • Provenance research and authentication coordination
  • Insurance, conservation, and lending logistics
  • Annual collection reviews and catalogue raisonnés

ii. Curation

Exhibitions that argue
for the artists in them.

Group shows, monographs, and commissioned exhibitions — for museums, galleries, and the occasional ambitious private space. We approach curation as a long-form essay: every wall is a sentence, every adjacency a claim.

Typical engagements include:

  • Concept development and curatorial framework
  • Artist research and studio visits
  • Catalogue essay commissioning and editing
  • Install design (with our design studio)

iii. Design

Identity, books, and
spatial work for cultural ventures.

Brand systems, exhibition catalogues, signage and wayfinding, publication series, web presence. Our studio works almost exclusively with galleries, presses, museums, and adjacent cultural ventures — people who care about the difference between fonts.

Typical engagements include:

  • Visual identity systems for galleries and institutions
  • Exhibition catalogues and monographs
  • Print, web, and editorial design
  • Spatial / environmental graphics

iv. Cultural Strategy

For brands and patrons
stepping seriously into the field.

PR, partnership development, and influence work for companies and philanthropists who want to be in the room — not on top of it. We're allergic to "activations." We build longer relationships between cultural producers and the brands that can sustain them.

Typical engagements include:

  • Cultural patronage strategy and program design
  • Press and editorial placement
  • Artist-brand partnership brokering
  • Long-term influence and reputation work

Public art and
workshops, through The Vine.

Public commissions, free education, and early-career grants run through our 501(c)(3) — sometimes alongside paid engagements, often independently.
